Spring is here… the sun is out, the clocks have changed bringing longer evenings, flowers are starting to bloom, and the Stay at Home lockdown rules have been relaxed in England. After a long and bleak winter, things are finally starting to look up!
So what better way to welcome Spring than a walk along the canal and a visit to a local nature reserve. The Leeds and Liverpool canal provides plenty of waterside walking locations, but not many are prettier than at Woodlesford Lock, where the Woodlesford in Bloom community have done an amazing job with the daffodils and other flower beds!
And just a short distance away is St Aidan’s Nature Reserve… a Royal Society for the Protection of Birds nature park located on an old coal mining area which was flooded by the nearby River Aire, creating the wetland and reedbed habitat.
