Peveril Castle in the Peak District, Derbyshire, is one of the oldest Norman castles in England being built by Henry II in 1176.

It’s in an amazing location high above Castleton providing stunning views over the village, as well as Cave Dale and out towards the peak of Mam Tor and the surrounding hills and valley.

The castle is managed by English Heritage and is worth a visit if you’re in the area, but I will warn you it is a very steep walk up the hill to get to the top! There are a few benches on the way up to have a rest though, and the views are defintely worth it!

If you are in the area and are looking for some ideas for other things to do, the castle is on top of Peak Cavern which you can read about here…

And there are some amazing walks in the surrounding countryside, here is a circular route taking in Mam Tor and Cave Dale which I highly recommend trying… Mam Tor, Winnats Pass and Cave Dale Circular
